Aluminum sand casting is the oldest and the most common metal casting technique. It is also the easiest casting technique to learn. The casting mold is made with sand. The pattern or structure is covered with sand, mixed with some fixative agents like wet clay. Then the design is removed, and the sand cover retains a cavity in the shape of the design, pattern or structure. Internal cavities or grooves are made with the sand and molten metal is poured into the cavity. The casting is recovered after breaking the sand mold. |

Sand Casting is Widely Applied Usually the sand mold is finished as two or three parts. After aluminum sand casting, the structure needs to be detailed by polishing, forging, plating, grinding or machining. The quality of the casting is by and large determined by the quality of the mold made. Any imperfections in the mold will be reflected in the final structure. Sand casting is widely applied to process low temperature aluminum and steel. Nickel and magnesium alloys are also cast using this technique. Sand Casting Is Ideal for Large Parts Aluminum sand casting is ideal for producing large parts. The pattern or the design is created primarily using wood. The pattern is made slightly larger than the intended size of the part to cover the metal shrinkage that occurs during cooling. The sprue, the part through which the molten metal is poured in, and the riser, the place where the air exits will be in the pattern.

Ensure Accurate Results The upper part, or cope, and lower part, or drag, are typical components of sand castings. Both are assembled and the molten metal is poured into the cavity. The designing of the mold must to be done very carefully to ensure accurate results. For more information about Aluminum Sand Casting |
The aluminum sand casting process can be utilized to produce parts as heavy as 2300 kg to 2700 kg. The smallest parts produced by this method have a minimum weight of 75g to 100g. Sand casting is also used as a hobby by many metal-casting enthusiasts. The availability of silica rich sand and its re-usability for molds make it the ideal solution for many enthusiasts. Aluminum sand casting can produce a lot of daily use things like, nameplates or doorknobs. As a hobby it pays too as it needs no elaborate settings, and a kiln can be set up even in the back yard. There are a wide variety of aluminum products, such as engine parts and components that provide easy availability of raw material for the aluminum sand casting enthusiast. |
