Cabinet door latches are a type of metal hardware designed to secure doors shut or to facilitate the opening of doors. Latches for cabinet doors use a fastening device to join two surfaces until the mechanism is employed to open the door. Historically, latches did not actually lock the door, however, latches have now been designed that both fasten and lock the cabinet door. Cabinet door latches usually incorporate a small metal (or plastic) pieces that when released sits behind the backside of the cabinet door opening preventing the door from being opened with the latch button being activated. The latch release is usually in the handle and can be depressed or turned in order to release the locking piece on the other side of the cabinet door.
While some cabinet door catches are created by stamping or die casting, investment casting is still the process of choice when it comes to both quality and intricate design. This is especially true if the door latch is to be cast in brass, iron, steel or an alloy. In the past the entire door latch was created by investment casting. However, today it is often the parts of cabinet door catches that are produced by investment casting. A Few Different Types of Cabinet Door Latches
