Carpenter Tools

Steel Investment Castings - Lost Wax Castings - All Popular Metal Casting Alloys

Many carpenter tools are drop forged, which is a different manufacturing process than investment casting. According to HowStuffWorks.com “Drop forging - Hammering hot metal into dies”, which now a days is usually done with presses and used two dies (one on each side) to form the tool.

The advantage of drop forging is strength and durability. The types of woodworking tools that are most often stamped “drop forged” are tower pincers or carpenter pincers, tinman’s snips and claw hammers just to name a few.

However, there are many different types of carpenter tools that are still created by metal casting. Many of these tools are still made the way they have been for centuries. Below is a list of the various tools used by carpenters that are manufactured by metal casting.

Cast Carpentry Tools

  • Smoothing Plane
  • Jack Plane
  • Bench Vice
  • Hand Drill
  • T-Bar Clamp (jaws)
  • Plumb Bob
  • Spoke Shave
  • Adjustable Square
