There are medical castings that can literally keep people moving under their own steam. These castings are medicines attempt to fix and replace a piece of nature that has been destroyed by accident or age. These castings are metal prosthetics; replacement knees, hips and other types of replacement parts. The most common metal prosthetic is the ball-and-socket hip joint that is used in a hip replacement surgery. A hip joint replacement prosthesis is implantable and features a hemispherical cup that is attached to the acetabulum cavity of the pelvis. The other, external part is a rounded, dome-like piece that fits into the cup. This piece also has a smooth articulation surface that allows the top of the femur to be attached to the prosthesis. The metals used in the implant prosthetic can be cast out of several different metals or alloys. The most common metals are cobalt chrome, stainless steel and titanium. Artificial joints and biological castings have returned mobility to many people who had been crippled by arthritis and other degenerative diseases, as well as from accidents. There are always new applications for medical castings being designed to make life better. For more information about Medical Castings |
