Stainless steel investment casting serves a wide range of commercial applications. Stainless steel is a ferrous alloy with a chromium content of 10.5% or more. Stainless steel is utilized for a variety of commercial applications because of its high strength, ductility, anti-corrosive or anti-rusting capabilities, low maintenance costs and smooth-shining surfaces. The applications include cookware, cutlery, dental equipments, surgical equipment, industrial equipment, and building materials. There are more than 150 grades of stainless steel and the choice of a grade depends on the specific application. Stainless steel is classified into four families, Ferritic, Martensitic, Austenitic and Duplex on the crystal structure and metallurgical properties. Ferritic alloys have high corrosion resistance capacity and special treatment is needed for its stability. Austenitic is the most widely used alloy and Duplex family is characterized by high magnesium content and is best against localized corrosion. | |||||||||
